Introducing: T-Shirt Diplomacy

I’m pleased to announce that several of my older, out-of-print T-shirt designs are once again available!

I’ve still got lots of great stuff up at TopatoCo. But these reprints are being offered through a new site: T-shirt Diplomacy.

NOW AVAILABLE ONCE AGAIN OR FOR THE FIRST TIME

I’ve also got some new ones, too: the Piranhamoose Emblem (previously only a sticker):

awesome

A handsome new redesign on International Fraternal Corps of Bears in Ill-Fitting Hats:

ursi, et petasi

And this guy, Vaudeville Dinosaur, whom we tried to Teespring a while back but couldn’t save from going extinct. Now, those of you who love him as much I do can have him!

HA CHA CHA

Also available, and pictured at the top of this post are the Bibliophibian shirts (now in light blue as well as navy).

I’m hoping to revisit several more of my older designs soon, and I’ll consider revisiting compositions or colors. For example, Steam Powered Heart, one of my favorite designs, is now available on black — and without any text, which I think is a classy look.

But why not keep some old styles too? So I’m offering Ninjas on Unicycles 2008 (the original style, on navy) and a new Ninjas 2015 (on black, with text).

So what is T-shirt Diplomacy?

Peace Through Commerce

A while back, I was emailed out of the blue by someone named “Ambassador Xog”. It was a very vague invitation to some sort of “cultural exchange”, but they wanted to license some old T-shirt designs from me for reprint purposes, so, sure, I was game.

Now, their site has launched! (There’s a tumblr too.) A bunch of my cartoonist colleagues are on there as well, like Ryan North, Kris Straub, Chris Hastings, and Sam Logan, with what I recognize as reprint designs, like my own.

And then there’s…the other artists?

I’ll be honest: these artists seem to be having a hard time grasping the nuances of pop culture. Some of their designs make no sense. Others are clever but pointless. Still others are impenetrable.

The about page raises more questions than it answers:

T-shirt Diplomacy is the first-ever intergalactic casual-apparel website.

In March 1977, the famous T-shirt Accords, a treaty between Earth and over 100 alien races from across the Nine Galaxies, laid the groundwork for the peaceful and mutually beneficial trade across the stars that we enjoy today.

Signed simultaneously in Oslo, on Earth, and Hrasbvakchar, in the Greater Chakpasadts, the T-shirt Accords represent the belief by all sentient beings that the best way for humanity and alienkind to learn and benefit from one another is via a joint commercial venture selling imprinted casual garmentwear…

I guess I am glad to be a commerce pioneer. I do recommend browsing the site, it’s pretty entertaining. The T-shirts don’t seem to be the generic pop culture stuff that clogs those dime-a-dozen “geek” sites.

I wish these clearly very inspired creators all the best of luck with their very strange project — I’m actually kind of curious what weird designs they’ll come up with next?

But in the meantime, you can also buy shirts from me!

IT'S REAL

Multi-Purpose Holiday Cards! And Other New, Nice Things

AHAHAHAHA

I have a bunch of new stuff in my store! First:

NEW HOLIDAY CARDS.

I’ve released some new funny holiday cards each year — there are now dozens of designs available! — and I’m pleased to add these new ones to the mix: six different MULTI-PURPOSE HOLIDAY CARDS.

whatever you need. we got it.

You can read all of the different designs here!

These cards are available singly, or packs. And of course all the other cards are still available, too.

please, take my card

SHIRT BLOWOUT SALE.

BWAHAHAHAHA

I have two big stacks of shirts sitting in my office — ones that I’ve overstocked, and have too many of (including a few designs by Kris Straub); and various factory seconds (misprints, defects, etc.) that shouldn’t be sold for full price.

Both are now on sale for cheap! Quantities and sizes are limited to just whatever I have. (Of course my regular stock of shirts remains available, over at TopatoCo.)

OVERSTOCK SALE / MISPRINT SALE

Oh and hey the sea lion shirt came back, too! Due to continued orders, TeeSpring reactivated it for another few weeks. SWEET

GAXIAN ALMANAC PAINTINGS

delightful

There are just a few paintings left from the Gaxian Almanac (the Wondermark calendar from a few years ago)! These watercolors are matted and mounted. Ready to be framed, OR WHATEVER YOU WANT.

GIANT WONDERMARK PRINTS

SO BIG

I found this stack of prints left over from a 2010 gallery show! The mats are a little dinged up, but they are all really lovely oversized prints that would look good on the wall of someone who doesn’t care that the mats are a little dinged up.

There’s just 10 of these guys! (Sorry, I can’t ship these out of the US; I doubt they would make it safely.) Take ’em home!

ROLL-A-SKETCH COLORING BOOKS

sounds reasonable

Just what it says on the tin! Also, these do not come in a tin. They are coloring books.

THE 2015 CALENDAR

Is currently being worked on.

I don’t want to open pre-orders until it’s a little farther along! But it’s gonna be really cool. This guy is involved:

rock that 'tar

Feel free to order other stuff now — I’ll announce the calendar in a bit.

WELCOME TO THE HOLIDAYS SLASH PLEASE HELP ME CLEAN OUT MY OFFICE

“Sea Lion” Has Been Verbed

My comic from last month about The Terrible Sea Lion has really struck a chord!

The Independent's i100

It’s been mentioned by the Independent (above), Slate, VentureBeat, Feministe, and cited in a ton of blog posts.

That’s really neat to see! I’m happy that it’s resonated with so many people.

So I thought this would be fun: for just a week (through October 31 only) I’m making sea lion shirts!

go away sea lions

Different colors (and even hoodies) are available too! And a tie-dye shirt because WHY NOT.

EVEN THE TIE DYE

Now of course I should note: reasonable people can disagree.

But c’mon I don’t even know how that last one RELATES

The Bounty at GenCon Booth 541

If you’ll be at GenCon this weekend, come visit me at the Blind Ferret booth, #541! I’ll have all the usual stuff, plus this WORLD PREMIERE:

ROLLIN, ROLLIN, ROLLIN

MY HERO

MY VILLAIN

32 pages of fun! I’m still hoping to do a bigger, more comprehensive Roll-a-Sketch book soon (and I know I still owe some kind folks PDF copies of that when it’s done!), but in the meantime, there will be this. Any left will go on sale online after the con!

HOORAY

Now Available: STEALTH SKETCHBOOKS

hey kids, books

The newest items in my TopatoCo store are these Stealth Sketchbooks! They were created by me and Kris Straub.

The three launch titles for the new imprint are:

Dating Tips For Time Travelers: A Handbook of Courtship From the Fertile Crescent to the Summer of Love by Victoria Clox (80 pages)

Jefferson the Cannibal President: The Shocking True Story of How Our Third President Dined Exclusively on Human Flesh (And Devoured Everyone Who Knew About It) by Gertrude N.T. Fordham, P.I. (112 pages)

Shakespeare for Infants: Much Ado About Colors! And Other Lessons (Pre-Verbal Learning System for Ages 0-4 Months) (112 pages)

They are self-evidently great books that anybody would be proud to own, peruse, and/or display in one’s place of occupancy — OBVIOUSLY.

They are also, in fact, all BLANK INSIDE. They’re sketchbooks!

sketch it up

Take notes in a meeting! Peruse on public transit! Great for chem lab or legal depositions. STEALTH SKETCHBOOKS.

It’s so very satisfying when a project can survive the entire process from “kinda dumb idea” through “halfway done for a while now” all the very long way to “Hey here it is, it’s complete and you can have it!” This one has been a long time coming, longer than most.

Kris and I originally conceptualized a set of book jackets, starting with the “Disguise Mode” that we came up with for our collaborative book collection, Hey World Here Are Some Suggestions. (Conceal what you’re reading, by making a regular book look like a different, weirder book.) This was during the heyday of our comedy podcast, Tweet Me Harder!

IN FACT, we have JUST POSTED a new Tweet Me Harder episode, featuring a behind-the-scenes listen to the day we brainstormed these very items! You can listen to it now on the TMH site (or, if you’ve never heard the show, the whole catalog is still available for free on iTunes).

The sketchbooks (slash notebooks slash dream journals slash catalogs of regets) are available individually or in a 3-pack, and there are a bunch more pictures here too. GUYS THERE ARE JOKES ON THE BACK COVERS

delightful

SPEAKING OF TWEET ME HARDER

I’m really proud of what we did with TMH for those few years, and personality-wise I’m not very good at concluding things. I always want to keep all projects going forever in dribs and drabs, hoping for some final master stroke that never comes, afraid that everything that’s been labored over for so long will just be scattered and forgotten if it’s not somehow kept alive until the sun falls into the ocean.

Today marks ELEVEN YEARS of doing Wondermark, and my trophy case of ideas, projects, accomplishments, failures, and cluttery, strange curios still continues to grow more populated every day. TMH is one of those curios, a teal-colored, joyful thing that I’m happy to have done, look back on fondly, and hope is remembered by others as well.

So it’s with all that in mind that I present: The Tweet Me Harder Complete Thumb Drive. It’s got 80 hours of audio (remastered from the podcast versions for better listening quality), plus all the videos, promos, songs, and graphics that we made over the run of the show, including a PDF of the aforementioned book!

There’s even another bonus episode (never before released online) available only on this drive. It’s a master copy of all of TMH in one handy, complete volume! In the way that a comic strip might end with a lovely hardbound omnibus collection that can sit proudly upon a shelf, this is the omnibus TMH, preserved for posterity and ready to be enjoyed at any time, or even discovered anew. Until USB as a format is deprecated, anyway, but that probably won’t be for another couple hundred years.

If you’ve ever listened to TMH and enjoyed it, this is our way of giving you a little artifact, a chipped-off shard of it to keep, a definitive “thanks for all the fish” from Kris and me to all the listeners who meant so much to us over those years.

Also it’s a funny show if you’ve never heard it! I think so, anyway, and I’m a professional humorist or whatever!

shout. shout. let it all out.
