[[A view of the planet Earth.]]
Captain: No signs of life on quarantine planet Monday-X1-Prime.

[[A pod of some sort floats into view.]]
Captain: Wait.
Captain: Sensors fluctuating.

Captain: Something remains.

[[The pod drifts nearby a large spaceship.]]

[[The spaceship extends some sort of grabbing apparatus to retrieve the pod.]]

[[A human sleeps inside the “CRYO-STOR” pod.]]
Captain: Are you… Ridala?

[[Ridala opens her eyes in shock.]]
Captain: We are the Phryday.

[[The Phryday greets Ridala. It is an alien, with a lightbulb-shaped body and insectoid limbs.]]
Captain: We received a distress call.
Captain: We came as quickly as we could manage.

[[Ridala steps out of the pod.]]
Captain: It has been twenty thousand of your years.
Captain: But we came as quickly as we could.
Ridala: PHRYDAY! FINALLY! We can begin the rebuilding of my people!

Ridala: What’s that NOISE
Captain: Another cryo-pod?

[[The ship extends its grabber again to grab another pod.]]
Captain: Are there others of your kind?
Ridala: I… I thought not!

[[Ridala greets the wizened, crazy-eyed old man in the pod.]]
Ridala: Greetings, traveler, and wake! Twenty millenia of Monday are coming near to their end!

Old Man: Aw, THIS hardly counts as a MONDAY! Back in the war, WE saw a MONDAY!
Ridala: Who IS this

The end, for real. The story began here. Closer look at the cryo-pod here!

20 years ago (in photocomic form)

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
