Comic Transcripts

A typical Wondermark scene: a grumpy-looking man adorned as a full one-man band is suddenly passed by a speeding biker on a penny-farthing.

BIKER: Get bent, IDIOT!

BANDMAN: HOW DARE YOU! You have NO RIGHT to call me an idiot! Do you KNOW me? Do you live inside this skull with me?

Bandman continues to pace, agitated.

BANDMAN: You’re just GUESSING! I know I’m an idiot, but who the hell are YOU? PRESUMPTUOUS!

The Biker returns, somewhat chagrined.

BIKER: You’re right. I made a hasty assumption because you are standing in the bike lane like a big dumb idiot.

BANDMAN: That’s fine, man! I don’t even disagree, just show your work!

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
