[[Scene inside a donut shop: A rather large Head Baker stares in shock at an airplane-shaped piece of bread held by the Baker]]
Head Baker: What are you DOING? You’re supposed to be making the DONUTS! Not PLAYING AROUND with the dough!
Baker: But look! I gave it little wings!
Baker: It’s like an airplane! A doughplane!

[[Customer approaches the counter]]
Head Baker: LISTEN to me. We are on an EXTREMELY tight budget. You cannot be WASTING dough on DOUGHPLANES. Do you HEAR me?
Head Baker: I can’t believe I even have to EXPLAIN this to you!
Customer: Hey, is that an airplane donut? Ha ha! Adorable!

[[Awkward pause]]

[[Outside the shop: DONUTS sign hastily covered by a plank with a new sign]]
Sign: Doughplanes and other aviation-themed pastries
Additional window sign: NEW!

[[Bonus panel: a poster for Doughplanes! with a female baker holding an airplane-shaped piece of bread and the silhouette of an airplane in the background]]
Baker: You are cleared for sprinkles!

Applications open for Genius Northwest – an IRL gaming competition

Last year, I participated in Genius Northwest, a gaming competition inspired by the Korean gameshow The Genius and its ilk.

It’s a reality show without the cameras — a 3-day, all-inclusive weekend retreat structured around a series of challenges and puzzles, in which personalities and dealmaking matter as much as playing games.

It’s truly a remarkable thing. I came in dead last in the competition, but I still had a great time participating.

The event is held annually in the Pacific Northwest (hence the name) and applications are now open to participate in the 2026 competition!

Learn more — and apply — at GeniusNW.com.
