Author: Middle class, educated, with seemingly every advantage, but who still feels aimless and dissatisfied…

Author: Someone with MY lived experience will be able to shine a penetrating dramatic light on the problems that arise when you don’t really have other problems.
Author: That turmoil is real! And as deeply felt as any other!

Author: Why are heroes SUPPOSED to always be “mature” and “capable”? A cartoon fiction! MY world is full of whiners and petty idiots! I’M going to pull back the curtain to show how THIS half lives!!

Woman: I know I’m only on chapter two, but WO are all these characters self-absorbed twits
Author: well uh yes they are of course intended to be uh unsympathetic

20 years ago (in photocomic form)

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
