Child: I went to that character parade at Disneyland and JAFAR was in it!
Parent: Of course.
Child: Jafar's DEAD! He died in the second movie! How can he be in a PARADE?
Child: Same with DARTH VADER or GASTON or ANY of those guys!
Child: We WATCHED them die! We have it on VIDEO!
Child: It's like we're watching them outside of time, at some pre-demise point in their story... but they're nonetheless trapped!
Child: They can't change their future!
Child: If I was afar in that parade, I'd try to make a BREAK for it! Get outta dodge! See if I can LIVE this time, for ONCE, before the INEVITABLE!
Parent: You're SUPER overthinking it. The real explanation is much simpler.
Parent: He IS dead. You're watching him work off the sins of his life by being in parade after parade until the end of forever.
Child: Then why is Aladdin in the parade too? And all the good guys?
Parent: NO ONE IS TRULY GOOD

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.
It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.
