[[An upset-looking child complains to their parent.]]
Child: I went to that character parade at Disneyland and JAFAR was in it!
Parent: Of course.

Child: Jafar’s DEAD! He died in the second movie! How can he be in a PARADE?
Child: Same with DARTH VADER or GASTON or ANY of those guys!
Child: We WATCHED them die! We have it on VIDEO!

Child: It’s like we’re watching them outside of time, at some pre-demise point in their story… but they’re nonetheless trapped!
Child: They can’t change their future!

Child: If I was afar in that parade, I’d try to make a BREAK for it! Get outta dodge! See if I can LIVE this time, for ONCE, before the INEVITABLE!
Parent: You’re SUPER overthinking it. The real explanation is much simpler.

Parent: He IS dead. You’re watching him work off the sins of his life by being in parade after parade until the end of forever.
Child: Then why is Aladdin in the parade too? And all the good guys?
Parent: NO ONE IS TRULY GOOD

Applications open for Genius Northwest – an IRL gaming competition

Last year, I participated in Genius Northwest, a gaming competition inspired by the Korean gameshow The Genius and its ilk.

It’s a reality show without the cameras — a 3-day, all-inclusive weekend retreat structured around a series of challenges and puzzles, in which personalities and dealmaking matter as much as playing games.

It’s truly a remarkable thing. I came in dead last in the competition, but I still had a great time participating.

The event is held annually in the Pacific Northwest (hence the name) and applications are now open to participate in the 2026 competition!
