[[Two friends discuss a recent email.]]
Friend: Hey, what was with the email you sent? Was it a mistake? It just said ‘fav’.
Fav-er: Yeah. We were done with our conversation, right?

Fav-er: So I acknowledged it with a fav. “I see no need to respond, so here’s a punctuation mark.”
Friend: You can’t fav via email.
Fav-er: You can if you just write ‘fav’.

[[The fav-er hands the friend a card, like a business card.]]
Friend: I guess you’ve got me there.

[[The friend inspects the card. It is a blank card with a large yellow star on it, the symbol of favoriting a post on Twitter.]]

Applications open for Genius Northwest – an IRL gaming competition

Last year, I participated in Genius Northwest, a gaming competition inspired by the Korean gameshow The Genius and its ilk.

It’s a reality show without the cameras — a 3-day, all-inclusive weekend retreat structured around a series of challenges and puzzles, in which personalities and dealmaking matter as much as playing games.

It’s truly a remarkable thing. I came in dead last in the competition, but I still had a great time participating.

The event is held annually in the Pacific Northwest (hence the name) and applications are now open to participate in the 2026 competition!
