Bishop: You’re a maltheist. You believe that everything bad in the world is God working against you.
I can see how that’s fun to consider in a sassy, iconoclastic way.

Bishop: But what about those experiencing horror? The desperately poor, the terminally ill, the inescapably oppressed?
Maltheism shrugs its shoulders and says “Sorry! Looks like you lost the fight.”
“You failed. Somehow you were tested, and apparently, you were beaten.” How despairing!

Bishop: At least I would offer them hope. The promise of something better to come. An assurance of justice- in the end if nowhere else.
Woman: Maltheism is only for people who can be energized by the thought that even waking up in the morning is a victorious act of rebellion against a bully.

Bishop: You think spite ahs the power to motivate all of human behavior?
Woman: You sound dubious, guy who expects the same of humility.

{{alt-text: ‘Maltheist’ should not be confused with ‘malthiest’, which is, of course, the most malthy of something.}}

20 years ago (in photocomic form)

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
