Artist: Okay, you’ll love my next installation.
Artist: I will travel to natural wonders. Mountain ranges, waterfalls, all that Ansel Adams stuff. Truly magnificent places, wrought by the hand of God.

Artist: Then, at night, using a powerful flashlight and a long-exposure camera, I will apply my signature to each one.
Artist: I’ll start small, but eventually graduate to a million-candlepower spotlight operated from a hot air balloon. I will sign entire countries.

Artist: Moving along a carefully orchestrated path, and wearing a GPS tracker, I will sign all the world’s great landscapes.
Artist: Then, at the conclusion of my journey, I will plot my path on a globe and reveal that I have signed the entire planet.

Artist: I think it could really make quite a statement!
Woman: A statement.
Artist: Yes…! Can the earth really be claimed, be owned, by man? And if so, why should that man not be me

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
