Comic Transcripts

A child stands by a meal table. An adult man stands with arms folded to his right.

CHILD: Dad. Dad. What do you see?
DAD: Wow! I see you finished all your food!

CHILD: But WHAT do you SEE? On the PLATE?
DAD (peering closer): Uh…nothing? It looks empty?
DAD: Crumbs? I see crumbs!

CHILD: NO! What do you SEE!!
DAD (peering even closer): I see CRUMBS! I don’t know!
DAD: HELP ME! What do you WANT me to see??

CHILD: TELL ME WHAT YOU SEE!!!!
DAD (bent nearly double with the peering): I’m TELLING you WHAT I SEE! I see CRUMBS! Nothing else!!

CHILD (calmly): NO. There’s crumbs…AND A BIG CRUMB.

Later. Mom has her hands on her hips, looking across the room.
MOM: Stop throwing our child through windows! They’re VERY expensive to reglaze!
DAD: This time it REALLY couldn’t be helped

It's Crumb City. The big crumb is City Hall. These are distinct for some reason.

20 years ago (in photocomic form)

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
