[[A woman, PRUDENCE, reaches for a tilted picture on the wall while another woman, ERMENGARDE, watches through tiny opera glasses.]]

ERMENGARDE: Hah! Messes with your OCD, huh?
PRUDENCE: Well, let’s see…

PRUDENCE: OCD is characterized by feelings of DREAD and FEAR. WHAT IF the house burns down and it’s my fault? WHAT IF I have a flesh-eating infection?? Obsessive behaviors are attempts to placate the fear — which, being irrational, can be persistent and horrible.

PRUDENCE: Me? I just LIKE keeping things orderly, or tidy, or neatly arranged. It’s PLEASING. Cuts down on visual clutter.

ERMENGARDE: And that’s NOT OCD?
PRUDENCE: Of course it’s not OCD. It’s called BEING CIVILIZED

Applications open for Genius Northwest – an IRL gaming competition

Last year, I participated in Genius Northwest, a gaming competition inspired by the Korean gameshow The Genius and its ilk.

It’s a reality show without the cameras — a 3-day, all-inclusive weekend retreat structured around a series of challenges and puzzles, in which personalities and dealmaking matter as much as playing games.

It’s truly a remarkable thing. I came in dead last in the competition, but I still had a great time participating.

The event is held annually in the Pacific Northwest (hence the name) and applications are now open to participate in the 2026 competition!
