Man: WOOOOO!! Adrenaline junkie! I live for the rush!!

Man: I’ve figured out how to get my body to squirt out fear chemicals in semi-controlled situations!

[[A boy is eating a piece of bread and holding a cup of tea while at his computer, watching a video of the man.]]
Boy: Psshhh!! While YOU’RE out there risking your life, I’M exploring the world from the comfort of home! JUST as fun and MUCH safer!

[[The camera zooms out. The deer is leaping off of the edge of a cliff, with the man still slightly above it.]]
Man: Clicking on links compulsively gives you intermittent hits of dopamine. YOU’RE CHASING THE SAME RUSH I AM!
Man: And all that SITTING is still endangering your health in measurable, albeit slower, ways!!

[[The boy is now eating his sandwich with renewed vigor.]]
Boy: You’re RIGHT! Staring at my screen is an extreme sport of its very own! LIVE FOR THE RUSH!!
Man: BRAH! WE’RE BOTH ADDICTED TO OUR BRAINS!!

Applications open for Genius Northwest – an IRL gaming competition

Last year, I participated in Genius Northwest, a gaming competition inspired by the Korean gameshow The Genius and its ilk.

It’s a reality show without the cameras — a 3-day, all-inclusive weekend retreat structured around a series of challenges and puzzles, in which personalities and dealmaking matter as much as playing games.

It’s truly a remarkable thing. I came in dead last in the competition, but I still had a great time participating.

The event is held annually in the Pacific Northwest (hence the name) and applications are now open to participate in the 2026 competition!
