Comic Transcripts

Here’s Fran’s original script, verbatim:

(Tiff is wrapping gifts, Eve enters)
Eve: “Is that your white elephant gift for the party?”

Tiff: “Yup! I just finished wrapping it.”
Eve: “Oh, I haven’t done that yet. Mine’s trickier to package.”

Tiff: “Bring it in and I can help you.”
Tiff: “The key is finding the right edges and having the paper fold with them.”

Tiff: “what’d you get anyways?”
Eve (yanking reins into panel with a large white trunk and tusks appearing.)

(shaking it to hear it rattle) I'll never be able to guess what it is!

This comic was created as part of a “Secret Santa” comics exchange on Reddit. These characters are Tiff and Eve, and this strip was written by Fran Sundblad, the author of the comic Tiff 🏳️‍⚧️ & Eve, and rendered in Wondermark style by me.

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
