A couple, BLAISCHE and YON, are chatting on the couch at a house party. Each holds a mug and saucer.

BLAISCHE: You ready to bail on this party? If you can call it that?

YON: Hold on, I’m gonna refill my coffee one more time.

BLAISCHE: The coffee is gross.

YON: Yeah, but it’s free.

BLAISCHE: It’s free, but it’s GROSS.

YON: It’s gross, but it’s FREE.

BLAISCHE: Our standards are apparently different.

YON: Says the person whose idea it was to come to this housewarming in the first place.

BLAISCHE: A “housewarming” is a NORMAL thing for a party to be! I didn’t think they meant it literally!

FROM OFF-PANEL: Break time’s over, my toasty-woasties! The SNUGGLE PILE is re-forming!

You don't usually need to read all the fine print on a party invitation, but sometimes it helps.

Applications open for Genius Northwest – an IRL gaming competition

Last year, I participated in Genius Northwest, a gaming competition inspired by the Korean gameshow The Genius and its ilk.

It’s a reality show without the cameras — a 3-day, all-inclusive weekend retreat structured around a series of challenges and puzzles, in which personalities and dealmaking matter as much as playing games.

It’s truly a remarkable thing. I came in dead last in the competition, but I still had a great time participating.

The event is held annually in the Pacific Northwest (hence the name) and applications are now open to participate in the 2026 competition!
