[[A young man, NORMAN, stands in a park-like setting.]]

NORMAN: Everyone wants to give me advice, as an impressionable youth.
NORMAN: And half of it contradicts the other half!

NORMAN: It’s ALMOST like — if I didn’t KNOW better — adults kind of make things up as they go, and find patterns in their actions mostly after the fact!

[[Norman approaches an older man, GRINDLEBY, who is sitting with his enormous dog. The dog is not relevant to their exchange.]]

GRINDLEBY: Can’t get wrapped up in worrying about it, man. Me, I just bumper-car it through life.
NORMAN: ‘Bumper-car’?

GRINDLEBY: Yeah…I just do whatever, for the most part
GRINDLEBY: Until somebody yells at me. Then I carom off and do the opposite for a while

20 years ago (in photocomic form)

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
