[[An elderly individual is fretting over some sort of amphora.]]
Hoarder: Why do I have such a hard time parting with stuff?
Hoarder: This stuff has USES! I don’t want to just THROW IT AWAY!

[[The hoarder’s spouse looks on.]]
Hoarder: But it’s CLUTTER. It accumulates. I CAN’T keep all of it FOREVER. Just LOOKING at it takes up mental energy.
Hoarder: Yet I can’t BEAR the thought of it being WASTED. So here it stays.

Hoarder: Why is this so DIFFICULT for me?
Spouse: Because capitalism has indoctrinated us to believe that inert objects have inherent value, so we’ll be driven to buy them.

[[The spouse looks surprised.]]
Spouse: Ah
Spouse: I can tell by the look you’re now giving me that the question was intended to be rhetorical

20 years ago (in photocomic form)

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
