[[Someone with wild hair, wearing a 2-piece suit, talks animatedly to someone in a top hat and a 3-piece suit, who is looking at his pocket watch.]]
Someone with Wild Hair: Everything in the marketplace is so boring, so predictable! The public is hungry for something *fresh* and *unusual*! Not lowest-common-denominator *dreck*!

Someone with Wild Hair: I thought “What do I need? What can *my* personal artistic vision realize uniquely?” And I *did* it! Followed my *gut*!
Someone in Top Hat: Artisinal shoelaces infused with the ground-up dust of your birthstone.
Someone with Wild Hair: To *attract* potential *mates*!

Someone with Wild Hair: Fifty bucks a pair. But *so* worth it! Entrepreneurship really *can* be the province of everyone! *I’ve* never been to school, never taken a business class in my life! *But I believe in this!*

[[Someone with Wild Hair stands alone in a less animated pose.]]
Someone with Wild Hair: I guess *one* business class would have helped

20 years ago (in photocomic form)

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
