[[Outdoors. Someone in a dark shirt and pants addresses someone in a light-colored three-piece suit and a wide-brimmed hat.]]
Someone in Dark Clothes: I think your hat looks dumb.
Someone with a Hat: Well, you know what they say about opinions! They’re like buttholes

[[The same as panel 1 but zoomed in slightly]]
Someone with a Hat: Covered in misshapen polyps, awkward and uncomfortable to examine
Someone in Dark Clothes: Uh

[[A closer shot of Someone with a Hat on a swirling vortex background. His face is shadowed and his eyes are wide.]]
Someone with a Hat: and you don’t know if everyone else’s are as painful as your own and maybe they’re just good at hiding it, so you’ve never learned whether the agony yours causes you is normal and expected, or if you should risk the embarrassment and vulnerability of serious scrutiny. So it just sits there

[[An even closes shot with even darker shadows. His eyes are slitted now.]]
Someone with a Hat: stinking in the dark
Someone in Dark Clothes: I think you should see a doctor

20 years ago (in photocomic form)

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
