[[A tall man stands proudly, speaking to a shorter man in a fur cap.]]

Tall man: People are sheep. I don’t like anything that the masses like.

Tall man: Hollywood movies? Please. Corporate radio? Gag me.

[[He holds out what appears to be a large bell. Earphones run from the bell to the shorter man’s ears.]]

Tall man: Instead of homogenized crap, listen to this indie track from my non-iPod MP3 player.

Shorter man: You don’t watch TV, do you?
Tall man: TV? Ugh. More like VD.

Shorter man: ‘Cause this song was on a Burger King commercial.
[[The tall man recoils, grasping his head as if in pain]]
Tall man: AAH MY INDIE CRED

IT'S SOILED FOREVER

20 years ago (in photocomic form)

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
