[[A bearded man is talking to a young girl, who is holding a doll.]]
Father: And if you’re bad throughout the year, then the sharkhawk will come and gobble you up!

[[The girl’s mother looks on disapprovingly.]]
Mother: Dear, I don’t think scaring the kids is a good way to get them to behave.
Mother: It opens a lot of ethical doors vis-a-vis the motivations for doing good

[[The mother and father’s silhouettes are shown.]]
Father: Well, I see it this way…
Father: There’s a fifty-fifty chance the sharkhawk is gonna devour us all anyway

[[The mother and father are standing around.]]
Father: So, might as well build a little mythology around it

20 years ago (in photocomic form)

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
