Armchair Philosopher: When I think back to remember things, it’s weird…
Armchair Philosopher: If I remember an OBJECT, I’ll see it through my own eyes, as I first saw it…
Armchair Philosopher: But often, if I think back on an ACTION – something I DID – the memory plays back in third person.

Armchair Philosopher: I see the room. I myself IN the room, doing the thing. The recollection takes place from OUTSIDE myself.
Armchair Philosopher: Is this a legacy of movies and YouTube and selfies? Parsing the world in terms of camera angles and pictures of ourselves?

Armchair Philosopher: There’s stuff I did as a kid that I remember from the angle of a PICTURE that was taken at the time… I guess I DID the thing once, but I’ve seen the picture a million times…

20 years ago (in photocomic form)

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
