Gax: Well, hello there, dog. Who do you belong to?
Small dog: Yipe!
Gax: I can’t pet you right now. I’m on my way to book club.
Small dog: Yipe! Yipe!

Large woman (Maureen): He is mine, Gax, as is the book club. Which you are hereby expelled from.
Gax: Maureen? Why?
Maureen: You know why. We have conversations in confidence. Book club demands a certain trust, and you have broken that trust time and again.

Gax: It’s book club! I want to talk about Khaled Hosseini’s use of metaphor! Where else can I do that? Nobody else is that boring!
Maureen: Gilda said that after she told us about the trouble she’s been having with her mother, you impersonated her and told her mother to “go suck a cluster bomb.”

Gax: Well, somebody had to!
Maureen: Then you transformed her into a shrieking reaper! Half the nursing home had heart attacks!
Gax: In Gaxian culture the reaper is good luck!
Maureen: You can’t just keep saying that about every shrieking horror you transform into!

20 years ago (in photocomic form)

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
