[[A mother accosts a couple who is doing something else.]]
Mother: We’re here with my son! He’s learning to skate and needed a certain type of kneepad. It’s only sold in five stores in this part of the state and the one here was the only one that carried it in extra-small!

Mother: We found the pads but by then it was so late in the day that we decided to stay in a hotel instead of driving back home. At first Taylor didn’t want to stay but I said “You can skate more tomorrow” and he said “Hotel please!”
Man: Do not care
Man: Who are you

Mother: He takes so much after his father, you know, he’s always–
Man: GENETIC INHERITANCE! A tricky subject! The transmission disequillibrium test is one way to measure the over-transmission of an allele from heterozygous parents to affected offspring!
Man: DO YOU KNOW YOUR SON’S HAPLOTYPE?

Woman: I will never make fun of you for memorizing Wikipedia again.
Man: I can bore ANYBODY.

Applications open for Genius Northwest – an IRL gaming competition

Last year, I participated in Genius Northwest, a gaming competition inspired by the Korean gameshow The Genius and its ilk.

It’s a reality show without the cameras — a 3-day, all-inclusive weekend retreat structured around a series of challenges and puzzles, in which personalities and dealmaking matter as much as playing games.

It’s truly a remarkable thing. I came in dead last in the competition, but I still had a great time participating.

The event is held annually in the Pacific Northwest (hence the name) and applications are now open to participate in the 2026 competition!

Learn more — and apply — at GeniusNW.com.
