[[Two people are arguing. One has sideburns and the other is wearing a mortarboard hat.]]
Sideburns: LISTEN – I’ve endlessly researched this topic, and the sources I’ve found who agree with me are DEFINITELY right!
Mortarboard: Well MY data shows that YOUr information is full of obvious blind spots and logical fallacies! The information that agrees with ME just makes more SENSE! To me! By DEFINITION!

[[A third shouts at them from a rock.]]
Logician: Sounds like you two are suffering from a classic case of confirmation bias!
Logician: The arguments you hear that SUPPORT your existing position sound RIGHT. The ones that OPPOSE you sound illogical and specious.

Sideburns: Well of course
Mortarboard: That’s WHY I believe what I do, because it’s what makes SENSE
Logician: But confirmation bias blinds you to any SHRED of validity that opposing arguments may possess! You THINK you’re being reasonable but in FACT you’re being partisan.

Sideburns: Big words, smarty. What makes you so SURE that we’re in the grip of confirmation bias?
Logician: Well, I figured you probably were… and when I looked closer, it seemed obvious that I was right

20 years ago (in photocomic form)

A young David Malki !, Steve Carey, and Ryan North, June 2006.

The computers tell me it was 20 years ago, June 9, 2006, that I arrived in New York for my first-ever comic convention as an exhibitor, MoCCA.

It was an important trip for me, a milestone in what would go on to become my career.

I wrote a little reminiscence on Patreon (free/unlocked) — including a first-since-then reprint of the photocomics I made at the time, documenting the trip!
