[[Outdoors, a portico. AGNESIA stands on the porch, pointing to the side. BUNBURY, wearing roller skates, slouches despondently on the ground.]]

AGNESIA: Hey, you left the fridge open again.
BUNBURY: Yes. The light shuts off when the door closes.

BUNBURY: The occupants of the fridge spend most of their time in utter darkness…this is punctuated only by moments when they are either CHOSEN to be eaten or shown that someone ELSE’S time has come, and thus reminded that theirs will soon.

[[Bunbury looks away from Agnesia.]]

BUNBURY: I felt that the foods that NOURISH us do not deserve to also be PUNISHED as they wait out the final days of their existence. So I wanted them to at LEAST have LIGHT.

[[Bunbury looks back towards Agnesia.]]

AGNESIA: You’re letting all the cold out.
BUNBURY: Do not worry. It is not the MACHINERY that chills the enclosure. It is their FEAR. Bathe them in darkness once more and it will replenish itself rapidly.

Fear creates the chill. But in the freezer? That is what hate feels like. The bags of vegetables do not forgive.

Applications open for Genius Northwest – an IRL gaming competition

Last year, I participated in Genius Northwest, a gaming competition inspired by the Korean gameshow The Genius and its ilk.

It’s a reality show without the cameras — a 3-day, all-inclusive weekend retreat structured around a series of challenges and puzzles, in which personalities and dealmaking matter as much as playing games.

It’s truly a remarkable thing. I came in dead last in the competition, but I still had a great time participating.

The event is held annually in the Pacific Northwest (hence the name) and applications are now open to participate in the 2026 competition!

Learn more — and apply — at GeniusNW.com.
