[[Young children ZANICE and JANDERIAH pose in their Halloween costumes: cowls that put the heads of animals atop their pates and furry capes complete with tails. Janderiah's costume resembles a badger or other mustelid, while Zanice has a rabbit's head and tail. Zanice looks up at Grandpa EXORD.]]
ZANICE: Granddad, what's YOUR favorite part about Hallowe'en?
EXORD: HMM! So hard to decide!
EXORD: When I was small, y'know, the thrill was in going around ringing doorbells, gettin' a chance to PEEK into all the NEIGHBORS' HOUSES an' try to see if they had any lizards inside-- ALWAYS ASK to use the bathroom, so's to take a REAL good lookaround for lizards. Might be keeping 'em in a back room.
[[Incidentally, Exord has a mouse on his head.]]
EXORD: When I got a bit OLD for trick-or-treat, I used to bum about with my no-good schoolchums, playing pranks, running around the neighborhood actin' all LIZARDY...
EXORD: As I grew to manhood, I realized how fun it was ANSWERING THE DOOR for kids, an' keeping a tally of lizard costumes seen...
EXORD: Then when you become a PARENT, you get to close the circle! You're BACK out on the sidewalk again, little one in tow, trying to get BACK in those houses and LOOK for those lizards in there...
[[Zanice turns to Janderiah.]]
ZANICE: What LEVEL of this EXPERIENCE have we been MISSING OUT on?!
