Regarding second person: Buffalo Soldiers? Have you read it? It's the only book I ever picked up PURELY ON A WHIM, knowing nothing about it or the author, in the very library you described in your post, and read and loved it. Or at least liked it--I was 19 then, and my teen taste can not be trusted. Seems like I heard someone was going to make a movie out of it. Malki!
